Jacob M. Pennings

Jacob M. Pennings, 86, of Milford, PA and formerly of Warwick, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Milford Senior Care, Milford, PA

Jacob was born in Holland, to the late Simon Petrus and Maria (Van Leewen) Pennings. He grew up in a large family on a dairy farm. In 1947 he immigrated to the United States and eventually started his own dairy in Warwick N.Y. In 1957 he married Nell Verkleij. Together they raised a family and worked the land for 36 years. In 1986 he and Nell retired and settled in Milford, Pennsylvania. For almost another 14 years he continued to work on a dairy farm, first for one son and then for the other. Finally, he retired fully, spending summers tending his huge vegetable garden and fruit trees.

Survivors include his brothers Simon, Peter, William, and dear sister Johanna; four children, Monique McCutcheon and her husband Dennis of Gardiner, NY, Paul Pennings and his wife Denise of Greenville, NY., Yvonne Merrill and her husband Everett of Milford, PA., and Bruce Pennings and his wife Christina of Middletown, NY. He is also survived by eight wonderful grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Nell, of 57 years.

Friends may call at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, PA on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 4 to 7 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, PA on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 10:00am with Rev. Gregory Kelly officiating.

Burial will take place in Milford Cemetery, Dingman Twp., PA.
