O'Hanlon, Brian Obituary

Brian Patrick O'Hanlon, 84, of Front Royal, died April 29, 2014, at home surrounded by family.


Family will receive friends at the Maddox Funeral Home, Thursday, May 1, 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, May 2, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Front Royal, VA. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.


Brian was born on June 11, 1929, in Astoria, N.Y., the only child of the late Patrick and Annie O'Hanlon. On Sept. 8, 1956, he married Claire Van Shea. He was a member of St. Cyril and St. Methodius Catholic Church in Deer Park for twenty years, St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Fairfax for fourteen years and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for the last twenty-five years.

 

His bride of 51 years, Claire, and an infant child, Eileen, preceded Brian in death. Brian was a really great father who will be missed by his six surviving children, Peter O'Hanlon (Anne) of Manassas, John O'Hanlon (Nancy) of Germantown, MD, Annemarie Economou (Nick) of Mooresville, NC, Kevin O'Hanlon (Lore) of Charlottesville, VA, Patricia Bagot of Huntersville, NC, and Michael O'Hanlon (Gay) of Milton, MA. He is also survived by 21 grand children: Mary Claire, Brian, Michael, Katie, Tina, Meaghan, Zach, Beth, Nick, Matthew, John, James, Mick, Claire, Maggie, Luke, Liam, Patrick, Laura, Ella, and Julie; and two great grandchildren: Killian and Cormac.

 

Brian was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War and a graduate of Fordham University. He retired from a distinguished career with the federal government. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Columbus. He loved going on cruises. He enjoyed movies, baseball, fishing, trivia, and telling anecdotes.
