Marvin L. DeShong

Marvin LeRoy DeShong, 79, Church Street, Hustontown, PA died at 11:15 AM, Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the VA Community Assisted Living Center, Martinsburg, WV.

Born April 3, 1938 in Todd Township, Fulton County, he was the son of the late George Preston and Goldie Mae (Carbaugh) DeShong.

He was united in marriage to Elner DeShong on June 4, 1954.  Mrs. DeShong survives at home.

Mr. DeShong is survived by a daughter and two sons:  Delilah Redenius and husband Steve, Hustontown, PA; Dan DeShong and wife Brenda, Shippensburg, PA; and Darius DeShong, Hustontown, PA.

There are nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He is survived by two brothers:  Donald DeShong and Harold DeShong, both of McConnellsburg, PA.  One brother, Blaine DeShong, one sister, Lois Jean Hess-Velasquez and one grandson, Jonathan Redenius are deceased.

During his lifetime, Mr. DeShong served 40 years in the Air Force National Guard with 28 years as an airfield management supervisor, served as captain of the Fulton County Honor Guard, was a lifetime member and former president of the Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Company where he also served as Ambulance Chief.

Mr. DeShong had also worked at the Pennsylvania Turnpike, PENNDOT and at JLG Industries, McConnellsburg, PA.

He loved to sing and was a member of the Dublin Mills Community Church, Hustontown, PA.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 6, 2017 at the Dublin Mills Community Church, 2700 Dublin Mills Road, Hustontown, PA with Pastor Jay Lobach officiating.  Interment will be made at Dublin Mills Community Church Cemetery.  Friends may call at the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, 301 Pitt Street, Hustontown, PA from 6-8 PM on Sunday and at the Dublin Mills Community Church one hour prior to the service on Monday.

The Fulton Honor Guard will provide military honors at the cemetery.
