James Donald McFarland

Memorial services for James Donald McFarland, 86, of Morrisville, are scheduled for Friday, May 26, at Saratoga Battlefield Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors.
Mr. McFarland passed away January 24, 2017 at the St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center in Syracuse. His son Bruce and daughter-in-law Paula were at his side.
He was born May 28, 1930 in Schenectady, NY to the late James Webster McFarland and Jean Leiper Grant.
Jim (or Mac, and earlier Donald) graduated from Burnt Hills high school. He attended Columbia where he rowed Crew for the University before entering the Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Clarkson College with a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, and later earned a Master’s degree from Clarkson.
At the beginning of his career, he worked briefly for both Corning Glass Works and Ingersoll Rand. He then embarked on his more than three decade career as a professor of mechanical engineering at SUNY Morrisville.
He pursued trains and model trains as a hobby in his early days and throughout his life. A visitor to his home would see model train tracks going through walls and from room to room. He also volunteered several years for the Morrisville ambulance/fire department as an EMT.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Sherman Patterson; and his wife Rosellen Stinson McFarland.
He is survived by six children including Jay (& Gina) McFarland, David (& Jan) McFarland, Bruce (& Paula) McFarland, Michele Lee, Sean (& Angelica) McFarland, and Doug (& Lara) McFarland; 19 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
