James Walter Edward Willis, Sr., 88, of Front Royal, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014 in his home.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Willis Chapel United Methodist Church in Huntly conducted by the Rev. Jeffrey Goodman and Samuel L. Campbell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Willis was born on July 26, 1925 in Rappahannock County, son of the late Walter Alfred Willis and Hattie Pearl Campbell Willis. Mr. Willis was a US Army veteran serving during WW II. He was Past Commander of the VFW Post 8241 in McLean, attended the First Assembly of God Church in Front Royal and a great contributor to many organizations and charities. Mr. Willis was married to the late Phyllis M. Lansberry Willis and his first wife and mother of his children Lottie Marie Willis of Manassas.

Surviving are a son Robert Adrian Willis of Manassas; seven daughters Joan Marie Lowery and husband Gary T. Lowery of Nokesville, Patricia Anne Mullins and husband Presley of Nokesville, Deborah Jean Kaumans and husband Robert of Summerduck, Lana Faye Hair of Catharpin, Pamela Kaye Goodman and husband Rev. Jeffrey Goodman of Reston, Karen Sue King of Bristow and Sheri Lynn Hiatt and husband Frank of Palmyra; one brother Randolph L. Willis of Fort Walton Beach, FL; sixteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Mr. Willis was preceded in death by two sons Jeffrey Franklin Willis and James W. E. Willis, Jr.; two brothers Gilbert R. Willis and Robert Willis; and an infant sister Mary Katherine Willis.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the Willis Chapel United Methodist Church. A reception will follow in the Reager School following the interment.

Arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal.
