In 1978, Denise eventually became the oldest of five siblings after the marriage of her mother to Attorney Robert E. Howard, Sr.  Denise accepted Christ in 1987 at Breath of Life Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ft. Washington, Maryland and later transferred her membership to Community Praise Center Seventh Day Adventist Church, Alexandria, VA.  She is also a lifetime member of the Alexandria Chapter of the NAACP.
