Margaret Davis Wakefield, 90, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Croasdaile Village, Durham, NC.  She was preceded in death by her husband, COL (RA Retired) Walter William Wakefield II, DDS and four older brothers, Herb, Benjamin, Byron and Reece.
Margaret was born in Nesquehoning, PA on July 21, 1923 to the late George W. and Emily Davis.
She graduated from Nesquehoning High School and continued her studies at The School of Nursing at The Woman’s Hospital of Philadelphia, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946.  Margaret worked as a nurse in Philadelphia, PA, Pine Bluff, AK, and San Francisco, CA.  She married ILT Walter (Willie) Wakefield on December 21, 1946, as he was entering University of Pennsylvania Dental School.
Her husband’s military career spanned 35 years, and Margaret accompanied him on assignments in Fort Polk, LA, Pine Bluff, AK, Munich, Germany, Aberdeen, MD Presidio, CA, San Antonio, TX, Augsburg, Germany, and West Point, NY.  They retired to Saw Creek, PA in 1977.
Margaret was a dedicated member in each community, holding numerous elective and volunteer offices over the years, specifically, Red Cross, Officers’ Wives Club, PWOC, ACS, Thrift Shop, and various church positions.  Over the years her home was filled with friends and family, sharing great meals and warm hospitality.  She loved to travel and play bridge, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by sons, Walter William Wakefield III (Cheryl), Lexington, KY and Benjamin Davis Wakefield (Jeanne), Chapel Hill, NC; five grandchildren, Shannon Keisling (Steve), Nashville, TN; Stephanie Wakefield, Margate, NJ; Angela Maciukiewicz (Bryan), Franklin, OH; Kelly Cosby (Shaun), Durham, NC; and Joshua Wakefield (Zeina), Durham, NC; and six great-grandchildren, Addison Keisling, Olivia and Evalyn Maciukiewicz, Corrina and Leo Cosby, and Sage Wakefield, two sisters-in-law, Chloe Brown(Kenneth), Martinsburg, PA and Manice Wakefield (Dale), Orbisonia, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held 10:00AM, Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley Street, Orbisonia, PA.  Interment will be made at the Orbisonia Cemetery.
