Edgar Charles Topel 84, a lifelong resident of Port Jervis, Matamoras and Milford died July 12, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. The son of Otto and Bessie (Greening) Topel, he was born July 28, 1929 in Greeley, PA. Edgar married Mary Daniels Dunbar who predeceased him in July 1992. Edgar is survived by many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and the "daughter of his heart", Patricia Horner of Port Jervis, who has been his caregiver for all the years since Mary's death.
Edgar worked for the Matamoras Water Department, Greenwood Trailer Park in Sparrowbush and was also a self-employed yard man. He was well known in the area for riding his bike. Edgar was so kind, loving, and giving to all in need, even though things were tough on him.
So "My Uncle Edgar", I say good-bye to you for now but have this to say:
Though your smile is gone forever and your hand I cannot touch, I still have so many beautiful memories of the one I loved. Your memory is my keepsake, as well as my two sons, Valance and Michael; riding the ponies, fishing, working with you…. with which will never part. God has you in his keeping. I have you in my heart.
Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township, PA.
Memorial donations may be made to the Children's Literacy Initiative, 2314 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
