WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE LIFE OF RAYMOND THOMAS.  WE LOVE HIM, AND WE REMEMBER HIS GENEROSITY, OUT SPOKEN PERSONALITY, HIS COURAGE AND COMMITMNET OT HIS FAMILY, FRIENDS, COUNTRY AND COMMUNITY.  

RAYMOND WAS BORN FEBRUARY 5, 1932 .  HE WAS THE FIRST BORN CHILD OF BESSIE JORDAN. ON MONDAY EVENING FEBRUARY 25, 2013 RAYMOND THOMAS COMFORTABLY SLIPPED AWAY IN THE COMPANY OF HIS WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN.

RAYMOND RECEIVED HIS EARLY EDUCATION IN ULLMAN SCHOOL FOR COLOREDS IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA WHERE THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA IN BIRMINGHAM IS NOW.  

RAYMOND ENLISTED IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE AND RETIRED AS A TECH SARGEANT.  HE RECEIVED SEVERAL MEDALS AND ACCOMODATION WHILE SERVING IN VARIOUS COMBAT THEATERS WHICH IS DEMONSTRATED BY HIS THREE BRONZE CLUSTERS ON HIS COMBAT RIBBON AND HIS UN RIBBON FOR SERVICE IN THE KOREAN WAR.

RAYMOND PROFESSIONAL CAREER AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF EEOC FOR PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY GOVENRMENT WAS PARTICULARLY FULLFILLING FOR HIM AS HE HELPED PROVIDE JOBS AND JUSTICE FOR PEOPLE IN PRINCE GEORGES COUNTY.  RAYMOND RECEIVED RECOGNITION FOR HIS SERVICE UP TO HIS RETIREMENT.  

WHEN MR. AND MRS. RAYMOND AND CATHERINE THOMAS AND FAMILY MOVED INTO THE WESTPHALIA ESTATES COMMINITY THEY IMMEDIATELY BECAME A PART OF THE COMMUNITY FAMILY.

RAYMOND THOMAS PARTICIPATED IN MANY COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS:  SUNDAY AFTERNOON SOFTBALL GAMES WITH THE MEN AND BOYS AND THE WESTPHALIA BOWLING LEAGUE.  HE WAS A MAJOR SUPPORTER OF THE WESTPHALIA CIVIC ASSOCIATIO, SERVED AS CHAIRMAN OF THE ASSOCIATION'S CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS COMMITTEE AND LATER BECAME THE PERMANENT CHAIRMAN.  HE WAS A STAUNCH ADVOCATE OF COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION INCLUDING CUTTING THE GRASS AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE COMMUNITY AND HELPING TO PLANT FLOWERS.

HE WORKED WITH THE COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE,  SERVED ON THE NATIONAL NIGHT OUT COMMITTEE AND SERVED ON THE COMMUNITY FUND RAISING COMMITTEE.  HE ADMONISHED THE CIVIC ASSOCIATION ON OUR PUBLIC FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES, “…THAT IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO SPEND THE MONEY TO HAVE A FIRST CLASS FUNCTION DON'T  HAVE IT.”

DURING THE SUMMER HE TOOK THE LEAD IN BEAUTIFYING THE FAMILY YARD AND THE SAME AT CHRISTMAS TIME.  HE WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO SHARE HIS LANDSCAPING BEAUTIFICATION SKILLS WITH HIS NEIGHBORS AS HE HIMSELF WAS TUTORED BY HIS LATE FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOR S WILLIAM BEST SR AND CLEVELAND COOK JR.

RAYMOND WAS A MENTOR TO FAMILY AND OTHERS, OFTEN DESPENSING TOUGH LOVE ADVICE BEFORE THE CATCH PHRASE HAD BEEN CREATED.  HIS WIT, EXPERIEINCES AND INDIVIDUAL LESSONS ARE A MATTER OF LEGEND AND CONTINUE TO BE SHARED WITH OTHERS.
 
RAYMOND IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE CATHERINE OF ALMOST 61 YEARS, AND HIS FRIEND OF OVER SEVENTY YEARS.  HIS DAUGHTER ANGELA S. THOMAS, HIS SON XAVIER R. THOMAS AND HIS DAUGHTER IN LAW ELIZABETH, FOUR GRAND CHILDREN JORDAN, TIFFANY, MELODY AND AMBER.

RAYMOND LEAVES BEHIND HIS FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS OF WESTPHALIA ESTATES, AND FELLOW SOLDIERS AND FRIENDS WORLWIDE.
