Shimer, Mahlon Obituary

Mahlon L. Shimer, 66, McConnellsburg, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 14, 2018.

He was born on August 19, 1952 in McConnellsburg, the son of the late B. Hiley and Marion E. (Morton) Shimer. He graduated from McConnellsburg High School in 1970.
After graduating from high school, Mahlon was called home to help run the family owned business, the community’s beloved Racket Store, a place where you could find anything, get advice on how to use it, and even borrow a couple of Mahlon’s tools to do the job. For the last seven years of his life, he worked as an assembler at Volvo Construction Equipment in Shippensburg, PA.

Mahlon displayed a strong sense of community pride and devoted many hours to numerous organizations. He was a man of few words, but when he did speak, it was often direct and to the point. He was a man of action and man of his word. He gave his best in all his pursuits. He was selflessly devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He is irreplaceable and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jody (Stains) Shimer; two daughters: Seleen Shives and husband Tony; Cara Truax and husband Scott; a son, Levi Shimer; and five grandchildren and two brothers, Martin and Kent Shimer. He was preceded in death by a sister, Colleen Layton, and a brother, Todd Shimer.

A viewing will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, September 17 at M. R. Brown Funeral Home, 301 Pitt Street, Hustontown. A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 18 at the funeral home with Pastor Jay Lobach and Rev. Jan Bye officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 228 N. 2nd Street, McConnellsburg, PA 17233 or Dublin Mills Community Church, 2700 Dublin Mills Road, Hustontown, PA 17229.
