Ralph W. Scott, 88, of Three Springs died peacefully at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Woodland Retirement Community, Orbisonia, PA surrounded by family.
Born December 4, 1924, in Robertsdale, he was the son of the late Furman and Katherine (Alexander) Scott. He was united in marriage to the former Pauline Jenkins March 24, 1948. His wife survives at the Woodland Retirement Community.
Mr. Scott is also survived by two sons, Robert Scott and his wife, ChoyLeng (Tham) of Dallas, Texas and Dennis Scott and his wife, Patricia (Wible) of Three Springs; and five grandchildren, Payton Scott, Paxton Scott, Leslie Whitsel and her husband, Shawn, Eric Scott and his wife Ryan (Byrd), and Stephanie Smith and her husband, Timothy; and eight great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by two brothers, Ivan Scott and Clyde Scott and wife Nancy both of Chambersburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Merrill, and two sisters, Joyce Jones and an infant sister who died in infancy.
He was a long time member of the Monroe Valley United Methodist Church until its closing and then became a member of the First Baptist Church of Three Springs.
Mr. Scott served his country in World War II in Italy and also served in the Korean War, reaching the rank of master sergeant. He was a member of the Madden-Wennick Post No. 518, American Legion, Orbisonia.
He was known as a soft-spoken area businessman. He was a self-employed coal dealer and lumberman. He was an active member of the Orbisonia Lions Club since 1954 participating in many activities and was awarded the prestigious Melvin Jones Award. He enjoyed many outdoor activities after he retired. He will be remembered as the man wearing the straw hat as he mowed the banks along the Hill Valley Road. He also spent many hours in the fields at the Speer Farm in Blairs Mills. He loved the many family meals and spending time with his family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, at the First Baptist Church of Three Springs (map/directions) with the Reverend David Ford officiating. Interment will be in the Monroe Valley Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call from 6 – 9 p.m. Sunday, February 24, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home of Orbisonia (map/directions) and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Mr. Scott may be made to the First Baptist Church of Three Springs, Post Office Box 174, Three Springs, Pa. 17264 or the Orbisonia Lions Club, Post Office Box 67, Orbisonia, Pa. 17243.
