Tex Melvin Roher, 76, formerly of Dublin Mills Road, Three Springs, PA, died at 8:35 AM, Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Shippensburg Health Care Center, Shippensburg, PA.  He had been suffering from dementia for several years.

Born June 17, 1938 in Springfield Township, Huntingdon County, PA, Mr. Roher was the eldest son of the late Melvin and Edwinna (Hoffman) Roher.  He never married and had no children.  He is survived by two siblings, Wanda Horton of Old Plank Road, Robertsdale, PA and Billy Roher of Maddensville Pike, Orbisonia, PA.  He also enjoyed his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John Horton, and his sister-in-law, Nina Roher.

Mr. Roher was a 1956 graduate of Saltillo High School.  That summer, he found work with Valley Rural Electric Cooperative on their right-of-way crew.  He attended Juniata College that fall before pursuing a full-time career with Valley REC.  He retired as a journeyman lineman in 1993 and continued with VREC on a part-time basis until 2006 – completing 50 years of employment with the co-op.

Tex was drafted into the military and served from 1963 to 1965 with the U.S. Army.  During that time, he was stationed in France.

Tex had many interests throughout his life.  He was known locally as a traveling butcher – assisting many of his neighbors.  He also enjoyed trapping, maple-sugaring, beekeeping, orchards and grafting, draft horse farming, gardening, forestry, local and family history, and genealogy.

Tex lived on the family property and was a farmer, working the land as long as he was able.  He was also a lifetime member of the American Forestry Association and attended the Cherry Grove Church of God in his youth.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley St., Orbisonia, PA, with Pastor Kenneth Cornelius officiating.
