Betty Robinson’s Life Journey

Betty Jean Robinson was born on April 20, 1953 in Washington, D.C, to the late Floyd and Margaret Robinson. She was the fourth of eight children. Betty transitioned to glory on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC.  She was educated in the D.C. Public School System, attending Watkins Elementary School, Stuart Junior High, Eastern Senior High School and later received her GED at Spingarn Night School. 

At an early age, Betty accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She then restored  her relationship with the Lord, and developed an intimate relationship with him 20 years ago after struggling with drug addiction for many years. From that moment, she never looked back.  Betty thanked Him daily for all her blessings, seen and unseen.  For many years, Betty was employed by the D.C. Public School System, Catholic Charities D.C., Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church and lastly employed with Goodwill of Greater Washington as a Supervisor at The Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Betty was very fond of all of her employees and colleagues.

Throughout Betty’s life, she was loved by so many people. She was a devoted member of Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church.  Betty became a member in 1998, and began supporting various committees and auxiliaries including the Usher Board, Voices of Calvary and the Outreach Ministry.  She was employed with the church for 15 years as a Facilities Maintenance supervisor.  One of the things you could always hear Betty say was, “I love my Church and I love my Bishop (Bishop Alfred A. Owens)”.  

Some of Betty's hobbies as a youth were softball, volleyball, playing cards and horseback riding.  As an adult she loved eating crabs, cooking, family gatherings, listening to various music genres in which her favorite groups were The Whispers’ and Frankie Beverly and Maze just to name a few, and dancing as part of the Tysons Corner Social Group. She was well known for her deviled eggs, her stylish wear, her feisty attitude and you can BEST believe that hair was NEVER out of place. Her favorite sports team to watch was the Washington Redskins. 

Betty leaves to cherish her loving memory three Daughters: Tawanna Neal (Kenneth), Shelia Roy (Willie), and Adrienne King (Gary); her five grandchildren: Kenneth Jr, Anthony, Antwon (Aadiyah), Ali, and Ke’Nia; Her Great-Grandchildren: Kenneth III, Jannah, Ubayd, Arwa, Aasiyah, and Nigel. Her seven siblings: Margaret A. Vanzego (deceased Raymond), Floyd Jr. (Sonny Boy), the late James (Butch), Jack (Cecilia), Linda, Ronnie, and Garry (Frances) Robinson; Special cousin: Ruth Patrick; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews; Spiritual Father and Mother Archbishop Alfred A. Owens and First Lady Susie C. Owens and Spiritual mentor Elder Carl and Lisa Jackson.
