Josephine Rebecca Williams Ricker, 86, of Huntly, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Fairfax Inova Hospital in Falls Church, VA due to traumatic injuries obtained from a recent fall at her home.
Ms. Ricker was born in Rappahannock County on December 8, 1926, a daughter of the late Alfred and Ida Mills Williams of Huntly.
Rebecca was a lifelong resident of Huntly and lived a simple country life. She retired from FMC/Avtex Corp – Coning Room in Front Royal, after working for 40 years. For the last 25 plus years, she had been a constant companion/caregiver for her elderly sister where they lived in their family home on the mountain.
She had what some would call the “gift of gab”, as she was on the phone regularly with friends and family members. She was also an avid “TV Buff” due to the fact that the television was on from about 7:30 a.m. till 11:30 p.m. And, she very much liked to keep up with the latest happenings, as she waited patiently (Or Not) for the daily newspaper to arrive.
Beck is survived by her elderly sister, Sidney Ritter of Huntly, her younger sister, Lucille West of Front Royal; her children, Lawrence Ricker, Jr. (Butch) and wife Sharon of Powhatan, VA, Kevin Ricker and wife Dianne of Chester Gap, VA, and Robin Dennis and husband Bill of Jackson, SC; her three grandchildren, Kari Forden and husband John of Powhatan, VA, Ashlyn Smith and husband Rhett of Seneca, SC and Matthew Dennis of Clemson, SC, and two great grandsons, Aaron Forden and Hunter Smith; her very special niece, Debbi Cahill and husband R.H. of Front Royal, and a wonderful family friend and personal caregiver, Mary Hickerson of Chester Gap, VA. Also surviving are numerous other nieces and nephews and extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Emma Mills and Lucy Williams; and a brother, Russell Williams.
As per her requests, Josephine Rebecca Ricker will be laid to rest surrounded by family and friends at a quiet graveside ceremony at Willis United Methodist Church Cemetery in Huntly, VA on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Sammy Campbell.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to a favorite charity or sent to The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Dept., 42 Waterfall Rd., Chester Gap, VA 22623.
