Louis Rey

Louis Rey, 72, of Milford, PA, died Monday, January 26, 2015 at Newton Hospital after a short illness.

Louis was born in New York City on February 21, 1942 to Louis and Ernestine Rey, proprietors of the Rey & Pierre Restaurant on West 52nd Street. He was educated in Switzerland and at the Lycee Francais in New York. Early in his career, he co-owned a beauty parlor, but soon gravitated to the restaurant business. He worked for many years at the restaurant George Rey, owned by his cousin of that name, and then later at Jean Lafitte on West 58th Street.

For almost 20 years, he was well known locally as the bartender at the Laurel Villa Country Inn & Restaurant in Milford, owned by his longtime friends Janice Halsted and Carl Muhlhauser. Louis maintained an apartment on West 44th Street for over 50 years, 35 of them with his partner Kathy who predeceased him.

Survivors include his brother Pierre, sister in law Sinikka, and nephew Sebastian, all of West Palm Beach, Florida, as well as many cousins in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

Viewing will be held at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, PA on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 12 p.m. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.
