Elsie Venetta Reed went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 28, 2011. She was born July 23, 1932 in Bristow, Virginia to the late Carter and Minnie Skinner and is preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

Elsie accepted Christ at an early age and attended Manassas Public schools. On August 20, 1964 she wed Everett Augustus Reed, who later passed away in 1999. She was a long time member of Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia and served proudly as an Usher and a member of the Voices of Triumph. She also was a loyal and dedicated member of Magnus Court No. 100, Daughters of Isis, serving as their Illustrious Commandress in 1983 and a volunteer at the Carpenter’s Shelter in Alexandria, Virginia. Elsie gained great joy and fulfillment from these organizations, but her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Reed is survived by her children; Rennie Renay Lovelace, Patricia (James) Poller, Charles (Sherry) Boswell, Everett (Deborah) Reed, and John Reed; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Minnie Mae Taylor and Gloria (Norman) Morton, a brother-in-law, James (Betty) Reed; plus a host of family and friends.

The viewing and visitation will take place at Alfred Street Baptist Church, 301 South Alfred Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 (map, directions), on Friday, September 2, 2011 from 10:00 A.M. until 12 noon. Masonic funeral rites will follow the viewing, and the funeral service will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m. Arrangements by Phillip Bell Sr. and Winona Morrissette-Johnson P. A.
