Prentice, Juanita Obituary

Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever. A loving wife, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Jaunita Elaine Dubose Prentice was born on April 6, 1933 to Walter and Beatrice Dubose.

Jaunita attended school in Montevallo, Alabama where she was born and raised.  She was a loyal member of Ward Chapel, A.M.E. Church and later Hemingway Temple, A.M.E. Church under the direction of Reverend Doctor Charles D. Smith, upon the family’s transition to Washington, DC in 1961. She loved the Lord and was a faithful church member as long as her health allowed. Juanita was the eldest of nine children, Henry Tolbert, James Tolbert, Sue Washington, Winston Tolbert, and preceded in death by Mayme Carthern, Loretta McCord, Edward Tolbert, Tyrone Tolbert and Doug Tolbert.

Upon her achievement of nursing training, Juanita married the love of her life, Clyde Prentice Sr. January 29, 1955 and went on to enjoy 57 years of marital bliss. The love that Clyde and Jaunita shared blossomed into a wonderful family. Clyde and Jaunita are the proud parents of five children, Anita Parson, Angela Prentice-Ray (Otis), Clyde Prentice, Jr. (Joyce ), Lolita Prentice, and Joyce Anderson (Paul) both of whom preceded her in death.

She was a loving grandmother of eight, Michelle Ray, Lynette Ray, Desmond Parson (Courtney), Courtney D. Parson (Reginald), Christopher Anderson (Danielle), Christine Prentice (Winford), Dominique Horton (Jerome), and Crystal Prentice. God blessed her to bear witness to the birth and life of six great-grandchildren, Kennedi Parson, Jamaya Anderson, Desmond Parson Jr., Joshua Parson, Christopher Anderson Jr. and Bailey Jones.

Juanita always valued and encouraged a strong and close-knit family.  She dedicated most of her life as a homemaker, embedding her love and values that shall live on for generations to come. She was a true testament to commitment and love demonstrated by her infinite love and care for all, especially her family.
