Porter, Sr., Kelly Obituary

Kelly C. Porter was born February 2, 1934 to the late Fleming and Lucy Porter, Sr. in Groveland, GA. On January 21, 2013, The Lord ended his enduring battle, and he entered peacefully into eternal life.

Kelly Porter left Georgia at an early age to reside in Washington, D.C. Kelly Sr. attended Phelps Vocational School, where he took up the trade of Auto Mechanics, which would become his lifelong occupation, except for a brief interlude of dabbling in the entertainment arena, playing organ on a few Rhythm and Blues Recordings. He met the love of his life at the tender age of 18 and that union endured for 59 years, from that union they gave birth to their only child, a son, Kelly Porter, Jr. He loved fast cars and won numerous awards for racing his unique Chevrolet Camaro, which he turned from a street car to a speedway racing champion during his many years in New York before returning to the D.C. Metropolitan Area and residing in Maryland where he retired.

Kelly was also a Mason, and during his retirement years he enjoyed helping his son campaign for the office of Councilman for the City of Seat Pleasant, MD; an office he continues to hold. He enjoyed the friendships developed through bowling and the comrades he gained while transporting them to and from Bingo. Kelly also had a love for fishing and dancing, and if anyone was to ask, he was one of the best hand dancers on the East Coast. He will be missed because he influenced so many people, both family and friends and others that he came in contact with throughout his life.

Kelly leaves to cherish his legacy: His wife Barbara L. Porter, his son Kelly Porter, (5) grandchildren: Marissa Lynn (Rissa), Tekia Nicole (Nikki), Alexandra LaVerne (Sasha), Nicholas Aaron (Nick), Karla Marie; (3) great-grandchildren: Dean (DJ), Quidelle, and Aiyanna; Brothers which preceded him in death: Fleming Porter, Lewis Porter, Bernice Porter, Guerney Porter; Sister-in-laws: Orzola Marilee (deceased), Barbara (deceased), Erma (Bessie); Brother and Sister-in-laws: William (Duke) and Dolores (Lois), Joseph and Mary (Cat), William (Big William) and Betty, Fanchon, Ronildo and Evelyn (deceased), Carlos Marcel, and Debra (Debbie), and Uncle Joseph Fisher, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
