Gary W. Ponte, P.E., 70, of Livingston, N.J., died on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at his residence with his beloved wife of 30 years, Kathleen, by his side.
Graveside service will be conducted, with military honors, on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J. (map/directions). Arrangements are by the Condon Funeral Home, 684 Kearny Ave., Kearny, N.J.
Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. Ponte resided in West Orange, N.J. before moving to Livingston. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.
A graduate of Irvington High School, he attended NJIT, where he received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He received his master’s degree at Penn State University in mechanical engineering and a second master’s degree in business administration from Rutgers University.
He was employed with the Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Company as a mechanical engineer for 16 years, retiring in 2001. Afterwards, he was a self-employed mechanical engineer and was awarded various patents. He was member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen (nee McCartney); sister-in-law MariAnne and her husband, Adem Chich; his niece, Geri Anne McEvoy, and nephew Adem Chich, Jr.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in his memory.
