Nuernberg, William Obituary

William Albert Nuernberg, 92, of Front Royal, VA, died on Thursday, October 16, 2014, in Winchester, VA.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 22, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Front Royal conducted by Rev. Kevin Beres. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

 

Bill was born November 2, 1921, in Turtle Creek, PA, son of the late Arthur and Loretto Craig Nuernberg. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Constabulary in Germany at the end of World War II. Bill retired as a Steamfitter from thePlumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #10. Bill was a very active member of St. John’s Church, especially with the Holy Name Society. He also taught catechism classes and served as a lector at masses. He enjoyed working as a volunteer with the AARP Tax Aide Foundation. Bill was an avid gardener andarborist, a crossword puzzle enthusiast, and a classical music aficionado. He enjoyed golfing and bowled with the senior league. His memberships included Samuel R. Millar VFW Post 1860 and American Legion Giles B. Cook Post 53, where he served in various roles including Commander. Mr. Nuernbergfostered the idea of the American Legion Community Band and arranged for sponsorships. He was married to the late GraceKuffner Nuernberg.

 

Surviving are three daughters Kathleen Nuernberg of Front Royal, Gretchen Divers (Claud) of Virginia Beach, VA and Sally Budd of Hammond, LA; two sisters Anna Bailey of Front Royal and Loretta Enloe of Illinois; and two grandsons C.R. Divers, IV and Will Divers both of Virginia Beach. Bill was predeceased by his infant son, Robert Daniel.

 

Pallbearers will be Claud Divers, III, Will Divers, C.R. Divers, IV, Vic Compitello, and Charles Goddard.

 

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 20, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal.

 

A reception will be held following the service at the American Legion Hall on 8th Street.
