Huron Ray Norris
December 22, 2014
Huron Ray "Bud" Norris, Jr., 77, of Front Royal passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the home of his daughter, Tracy Ann Norris, in Huntly, Virginia.
As requested by Mr. Norris, no services will be undertaken. However, the family will receive friends at the home of Tracy Norris and Scott Lester at 50 Little Way, Huntly, Virginia, on Saturday, December 27, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Bud was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina (Wayne County), the third child of four to Huron and Lola Newell Norris. He grew up playing baseball, semi-pro football, fast pitch and slow pitch softball, and he boxed with the golden gloves boxers in North Carolina and the sports he played for Goldsboro High School. He spent a few summers working on a ranch in Wyoming and Colorado. After high school Bud went to trade school and obtained his licenses for locksmith, plumbing, electrical work, and general contracting. After moving to Alexandria, Virginia, he started working for Alexandria Hospital.
Bud moved his family to Front Royal in 1978 and started working for Warren Memorial Hospital in the maintenance department. He played on the hospital softball team, coached, and made many close friends. After he retired from Warren Memorial Hospital in 1998, he became active again coaching women's softball teams (Lesters and Storm) and little league fast pitch girls softball. Bud instilled the love of music, sports, outdoors, and wildlife into his children as they were all active in sports growing up in Warren County. He was a vivacious man with many talents including refurbishing antique furniture and woodworking, gun smith work, making locks and keys, tinkering in his shop and playing pool. He was always busy and loved to help others. He was recently saved and became a Christian, thanks to Happy Anderson and his giving witness to the faith that his children share.
He is survived by his ex-wife and friend: Carol Light; four children: Huron Ray "Buddy" Norris, III (Kristy) of Big Stone Gap, Timothy Jon Norris (Kelly) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Tracy Ann Norris of Huntly, and Amanda Norris Williams (Derrick) of Bentonville; two sisters: Eleanor Tepoel of Erie, Colorado, and Bernice Dougherty of Jacksonville, North Carolina; a brother: Douglas Norris of North Carolina; eleven grandchildren: Chelsie Hamilton, Lucas Hamilton, Andrew Jenkins, Willow Jenkins, Leah Norris, Lillian Williams, Madisyn Norris, Tabitha Lester, Cory McCauley, Parker Faith Norris, and Charlotte McCauley; and a step-grandson: Aden Williams.
