Neufville, Nyantee Obituary

Nyantee “Yantee” Amen Neufville, 38, passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 6, 2017. He was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, co-worker, neighbor and friend.  Born in Boston, MA, Yantee moved to Washington, DC in 2005.  He attended Kenyon College in Gambier, OH, graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in political science from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and received a Master of Arts in Government from Johns Hopkins University.  At Emory University, he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He married Malika (Fair) Neufville in 2015.

His professional career focused on government affairs related to media and telecommunications and included work at organizations such as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Goodwill Enterprises of Greater DC.  Yantee worked most recently at the Comcast Corporation as a leader in government and regulatory affairs. He led numerous service activities, such as raising funds to help the residents of the Flint, Michigan water crisis and spearheading a clothing drive for Comcast Cares Day.

Yantee accepted Christ at age nine, being baptized into Concord Baptist Church in Boston. His relationship with God grew while he was in DC, as he participated in a men’s small group and Bible study at Grace Covenant Church. He and Malika joined Reid Temple AME Church in 2015.

Although his time on this earth was short, he will be remembered for his authenticity and as a positive and warm soul who knew how to stop and enjoy each day.  Yantee was a dedicated community servant, talented artist, and lover of international travel.  He served on the board of the Hillcrest Community Civic Association, was a member of the Awesome Foundation, a founding member of the Pennsylvania Avenue Corridor East Organization, and mentored African American men through Concerned Black Men of DC and the Just Say Yes program.

Those remaining to cherish his memory and his distinctive, infectious laugh include his wife, Malika Fair Neufville; mother, Mamie Neufville; sister, Weddee Neufville (Rick) Henry; niece and nephew, Nina and Matthew Henry; Susan Paine; Joseph Barzey; Henry Neufville and a host of extended family, family-in-love, neighbors, and friends.  A celebration of Yantee’s life will be held on Monday, July 24th, 2017 at 11:00am at Reid Temple AME Church North Campus, Silver Spring, MD 20904. In honor of his life well lived, the family requests attendees wear white clothing.  Family will be receiving friends at the repast directly following the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund in his name: https://www.gofundme.com/yantee.
