Memmi, Paul Obituary

Paul Memmi, 83, Cherry Grove Church Road, Three Springs, PA died Thursday evening, February 20, 2014 at UPMC Altoona.

 

Born October 3, 1930 at Three Springs, PA, he was the son of the late Domenico and Grazia (Facchinei) Memmi.  

 

He is survived by four sisters and two brothers:  Trieste Brandt and Dima Memmi, both of Chambersburg, PA; Dina Starliper, Mercersburg, PA; Clementina Memmi Abel Memmi and Anthony Memmi, all of Chambersburg.  Four brothers Joseph, Linsey, Villie, and Arthur Memmi and one sister Blanche Stinson are deceased.

 

Two sisters in law survive: Lee Memmi, Bristol, PA and Miriam Memmi, Chambersburg.

 

Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

 

Mr. Memmi was a graduate of Orbisonia High School and was the valedictorian of his class.  He went to Penn State University and earned a degree in electrical engineering.  At Penn State, he joined the R. O. T. C. Program and served with the US Army in Germany as a First Lieutenant in the Signal Corp.

 

After his military service, Mr. Memmi worked at Bendix Corp., York, PA and General Electric, Utica, NY.  His final employment was with the government at the US Army Warfare Laboratory, Ft. Monmouth, NJ where he worked in the communication field.  He was extremely creative and inventive and won several awards for improving warfare communication operations.

 

He loved fishing for trout in the mountain streams of Pennsylvania and was an avid supporter of the catch and release program.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the

Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley Street, Orbisonia, PA with Rev. Steve Heaster officiating.  Interment will be at Three Springs Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions or donations may be made to the Color Guard at American Legion Post #24, 412 Washington Street, Huntingdon, PA 16652 or to the Color Guard at VFW Post 1599, 747 South Fourth Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
