Lucas, Robert Obituary

Born December 27, 1918, in Stafford, Virginia, he departed this life at his home in Washington, DC on Monday, June 10, 2013. He was the son of the late Frank and Rosa Lucas.  He attended the Fredericksburg City School System where he graduated. Robert began his career at an early age as a carpenter and construction worker.  He went on to earn his license as Master Carpenter in 1938. He trained as a carpenter on many government buildings including the White House Renovation in 1950, John F. Kennedy Center and Martin Luther King Jr. Library to name a few. He retired from the Mid Atlantic Regional Carpenters Union in 1984 after over 50 years of service. He joined the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge in 1947 in which he served for over 50 years and held many positions and titles.

Robert also served in the U.S. Army Infantry and fought in many battles including World War II.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He was married to the late Edith Davis in 1947 and to this union was born one son, the late Robert D. Lucas Jr.  He later married Anna Jean Smith who preceded him in death in 2006.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving granddaughter, Myra Joy Branch (Milton Branch, Jr.); four great-grandchildren, Milton III, Myah, Mikylah and Mia; two dear friends, Lynn Hill and Hugh Wilhite and a host of cousins and friends.

Service is Monday, June 24 at Shiloh Baptist Church New Site of Frederecksburg, VA. Viewing @10.30 with funeral at 11AM; Interment immediately following at Quantico National Cemetery.
