Frances Larson Leighty, 94, of Milford, Pennsylvania died on May 9th, 2013 at the Belle Reve Senior Living Community. Born on November 20th, 1918, in Gothenburg, Nebraska, she was the seventh of ten children of Louisa and Walfred Larson. Following high school, she moved to Oak Park, Illinois to attend secretarial school and live with four of her sisters.
While in Oak Park she met and married Fred Leighty, an advertising executive, in 1941. Following the war, they moved to Lombard, Illinois, settling shortly thereafter in Larchmont, New York. The Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church and the local hospital women’s auxiliary consumed much of her time. She also kept very busy with creative sewing and knitting projects for many years. Following Fred’s retirement, they moved to Milford, Pennsylvania, and later to Deland, Florida. After Fred’s death, Fran moved back to Milford where she has lived for 16 years, enjoying her church, friends, and grandchildren. She always loved to watch the Kentucky Derby, enjoyed bridge and canasta and entertaining friends and family at her home.
Frances Leighty is survived by her three children, John (Joyce), Joan (Don), and Jim (Susan); her 11 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Minerva Diener and Marilyn (Elmo) Hill. Her husband Fred preceded her in death.
A memorial service is planned for July 20th, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Milford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund at the First Presbyterian Church of Milford or the American Cancer Society.
