Life and Legacy of Phyllis A. Leake
“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under the sun…”
A time to be born...
In the year of 1939 on January 15th a beautiful baby girl named Phyllis A. Payne was born to the late John and Nellie Payne in Alexandria, VA. After the passing of her parents Phyllis was raised by her Grandmother Lena Jones. Phyllis received her formal education within the City of Alexandria School system and graduated from the historical Parker Gray High School where she made many life-long friends.
A time to embrace...
Phyllis was a soft spoken gentle person who loved to laugh and loved people. On the 24th of February 1962 Phyllis was united in Holy Matrimony to James Carl Leake, Sr. of Mt. Gilead, NC from that union four handsome sons were born. Carl and Phyllis resided in Alexandria, VA until 1972 when they moved to Dale City, VA. Dale City was their home for many years. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, and foster mother to numerous children. She was also a part-time crossing guard for the Prince William County School system. Outstanding natural parents, Carl and Phyllis received numerous honors for providing excellent nurturing and guidance to their foster children as well.
After many years of hard work and parenting, both Carl and Phyllis began to experience health problems and made the decision to relocate to Lawrenceville, GA to be cared for by their sons.
A time to die...
On May 15th, at her home in Lawrenceville, GA with her beloved husband at her side Phyllis answered the call of the Lord and slipped peacefully away after a long fought battle with breast cancer.
