Harold R. Largent

Harold Richard Largent, known by most as “Harry” or “Dick”, 87, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018, after a valiant fight with lung cancer.  This terrible disease took many things from him, but never broke his spirit.

Harold was born August 22, 1930, in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania to Lewis F. Largent and Lottie (Fix) Largent.  He graduated from McConnellsburg High School in 1948, and then enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  After being Honorably Discharged, Harold received his B.S. in Math and Physics from Shippensburg University, Pennsylvania in 1959.

Harold had a passion for the Space Program and spent his professional career as a NASA Engineer at both Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia and the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.  While at NASA, Harold was part of all missions, including Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, and Space Shuttle.  At retirement, he was the Manager of the JSC Avionics Evaluation Lab.

During retirement, Harold enjoyed genealogy research, gardening, reading, and spending time with his family and friends.  Harold was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who always extended a helping hand to those in need.

Harold is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Alice (Martz) Largent; two sons, Scott Largent and his wife Renata, and Christopher Largent and his wife Joy; two granddaughters, Alyssa Largent and Amanda Largent; his brother Clair W. Largent and his wife Lenora; Shirley Christian, wife of Kenneth F. Largent; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Lottie; and by his brothers Lewis F. Largent Jr. and his wife Dorothy, Kenneth; and his sister Buelah Pattillo and her husband Bill.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Union Cemetery on Great Cove Road in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania.
