Mr. Fred Paul Krukiel of Kearny died on October 30, 2012. He was 91.
A funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 10, in St. Stephen's Church (map/directions) at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting is on Friday in the Condon Funeral Home 684 Kearny Ave., Kearny (map/directions) from 3 - 7pm.
Born in Poland, Fred had lived in Kearny since he was 3.
Fred graduated from the Cooper Union School of Engineering and receied a Master of Science degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. He had worked as a plant engineer for the Andrew Jergens Co. and Roche Diagnostics in Belleville before retiring in 1986.
Mr. Krukiel was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army and served during WWII and the Korean War. He received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the Battle of the Bulge and he was also a recipient of the NJ Distinguished Service Medal.
He was a member of the St. Stephens Holy Name Society as well as a Cub Scout Leader for 10 years. He was also a member of American Legion Post #99 in Kearny.
Predeceased by his wife, Helen (nee Haviland) he is survived by his children Mary K. Gorman, Dorothy K. Jennings, Peter Krukiel and Thomas Krukiel. Also surviving are his sister Genevieve Magee and grandchildren Elizabeth and John Jennings.
