King, Galen Obituary

Galen E. Kling, 91, of Croghan Pike, Shade Gap, PA died at 1:20 AM, Monday, December 11, 2017 at his home.

Born January 16, 1926 in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Ross W. and Mary (Piper) Kling.

He was married to Bernice (Locke) Kling on November 9, 1944 in Hagerstown, MD.  Mrs. Kling preceded him in death on February 1, 2003.

He is survived by three daughters:  Linda Kling, Shade Gap, PA; Glenda Hamilton and husband David; and Audrey Hall and husband Bill, both of Burnt Cabins, PA.

There are four grandchildren:  Rodney Hall, Shippensburg, PA; Paul Hamilton and wife Patty, Orbisonia, PA; Mindy Hall, Fayetteville, PA; and Brenda Speer and husband Phillip, Litiz, PA.  He also has seven great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, and two step great-great-grandchildren.

One sister and one brother survive:  Carl Kling and Ruth Ann Jaymes, both of Chambersburg, PA.

He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Eugene Kling, one sister Mary Jane (Kling) Locke, four brothers, Wendell, John, Boyd, and Charles Kling, two step great-grandsons, Brandon and Bradley Morrow, and one step great-great-granddaughter, Michaela Hinton.

Mr. Kling was a member of Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap, PA for over 67 years where he served as a deacon for over 50 years, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and church treasurer.  He was a member of the of Huntingdon County Gideon Camp.

He served in the United States Navy from April 24, 1944 to February, 6, 1946, on board the USS Savannah.  He was a Dublin Township supervisor for 24 years.

During his lifetime he was a farmer, construction worker, and retired from PENNDOT after 17 years as a grader operator.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping snapping turtles, and hunting for mushrooms.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap, PA with Pastor Dan Fox and Pastor Berry Brown officiating.  Interment will be made at the Fair Ridge Cemetery, adjacent to the church. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Memorial contributions can be made to Gideons International, Huntingdon County Camp, PO Box 51, Petersburg, PA 16669-0051.

The Fulton Honor Guard will provide military services at the cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, PA.
