Edward M. Kern, II, 83, of Hares Valley Road, Mapleton, PA, died Tuesday morning, March 19, 2013 at his home.
Born July 12, 1929 at Alexandria, PA, he was a son of the late Edward M. & Annie (Shoemaker) Kern. He was married to the former Patricia J. Smith on November 2, 1950. Mrs. Kern preceded in death October 10, 1995.
Surviving are six children; Edward M. Kern, III and his wife Linda of RD, Mapleton, PA, Ronald Kern and his wife Karen of Newburg, PA, Leonard Kern and his wife Peggy of RD, Mapleton, PA, Thomas Kern and his wife Carleen of RD, Mapleton, PA, Thekla Park and her husband Rodney of RD, Mapleton, PA and Christopher Kern and his wife Tina of Cassville, PA. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one sister, Alice Martha "Dolly" Y'Barbo of Nacogdoches, TX. Two grandchildren and a total of eleven brothers and sisters preceded in death.
Mr. Kern was a member of the Beech Run Church of the Brethren, Hares Valley Road, Mapleton, PA. He retired in 1991 from Pennsylvania Glass Sand, Inc., Mapleton, PA after 35 years service as a heavy equipment operator.
Mr. Kern was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army.
Mr. Kern was very fond of his family and will be remembered for his sense of humor and his ability to fix anything.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Beech Run Church of the Brethren, 14918 Hares Valley Road, Mapleton, PA with Pastor Connie Maclay officiating. Interment will be made privately at Bowman's Chapel Cemetery, RD, Mapleton, PA. Friends may call at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, 245 Seminary St., Cassville, PA (map/directions) 7 - 9 PM on Thursday.
