Cindy D. Joyner Whiting

On Sunday, April 21, 2013 Cindy Denise Whiting went home to be with our heavenly father. Cindy was born at DC General Hospital in Washington, DC on February 10, 1968 to the late James Ray Joyner and Ruth Carol Joyner.
Cindy was raised in Washington, DC where she received her education. During her senior year, she attended both Martha Washington Vocational School and McKinley Tech High School, excelling academically and graduating with honors. She went on to further her education at the University of the District of Columbia, UDC.
As a result of her determination to succeed and hard work efforts, Cindy obtained an in-school work opportunity with the District of Columbia Government, Department of Human Services. Shortly after, she became permanent with full time employment until 1991. Later, she worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Agency, FDIC as a Special Police Officer where she retired due to her illness.
She met the love of her life, Milton Lewis Whiting Jr. and they were happily married on June 10, 1997 to present. Cindy enjoyed vacationing and relaxing with her husband. She loved spending time with her dog Sampson (Sammy) who was her heart, filling it with so much joy. Cindy loved shopping and having fun. She was known by many for hosting bus trips to Kings Dominion Amusement Park every year on Easter Monday. Cindy had a benevolent spirit, a keen eye for fashion and a deep passion for music. She was a wonderful wife, a loving mom, grandmother and daughter and an exceptional sister and friend.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father, James Ray Joyner and sister-in-law, Sheila Whiting. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Milton Lewis Whiting Jr.; son, Andre Whiting; daughter, Nekisha Speaks; four grandsons, Milik and Keshon Dunmore, Dreyon and Adrian Whiting; mother, Ruth Carol Joyner; two brothers, Corey and Terry Joyner; two sisters, Patricia Douglas and Katrina Denese Poge; father and mother in-law, Harris and Mildred Brown; brother in-laws, Kenneth Poge and Donald Brown; sister in-laws, Selinda Joyner, Shirley Brown, Sharon Harrell, Terri Whiting and Rose Whiting; three god children, Kenneth M. Poge, Ka’Mari Johnson and Avion D. Perkins Jr.; A host of nieces, family and friends.
Services will be held on Wednesday, May 1 at Greater Deliverance Church of God In Christ, 441 Chaplin Street SE Washington, D.C. (map/directions). Viewing at 10 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11 a.m.
