John D. Hunter, Jr. departed this life suddenly on January 7, 2015.

He was born and educated in Washington, DC. He was the only son of the late John D. Hunter, Sr. and Essie Ann Hunter. He is survived by his mother: Essie A. Hunter; two aunts: Mrs. Norma Kennerly and Ms. Dorothy Smith; one uncle: Charles Smith; and a very close friend of 27 years: Michelle A. Spratley.

John loved his mother with all of his heart and when asked if he was okay he would say "If Mom is okay than I'm okay."

John worked for the Department of Treasury and the Finance Management Service (FMS) over 32 years. He held several different positions. He was a dedicated employee and took pride in his work. John was a former president of the National Treasury Employees Union, Chapter 202. He fought long and hard for the employees. He was the Parliamentarian for the FMS Blacks in Government (BIG) Chapter and also was the Region XI Parliamentarian, where he was a lifetime member. He retired from the Treasury in July 0f 2013.

John was a kind, humble loving man and a great friend. John was very private but would help you in anyway he could. He always remembered everyone's birthday and would either mail or hand deliver you a card.

John enjoyed traveling and was in the process of planning a family cruise. He loved sports and was a season ticket holder for the Washington Redskins and The Washington Wizards.

Visitation will be held on Friday January 23, 2015 from 9 a.m. until hour of service 11 a.m. at the Gethsemane Baptist Church, 5119 4th Street NW. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Services by Bianchi Funeral Service.
