Thomas Hughes of Kearny, died on Tuesday, September 4th in Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville. He was 78.
Born in Kearny, Tom was a lifelong resident and a proud US Army Veteran. He worked as a pattern maker for Worthington Pump in Harrison for 15 years, before joining the NYC Carpenters Union from 1972 until he retired in 2001. He was a member of the Family Club, known as the Magnificent 7, and an avid bowler and horse racing enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy (nee: Villano), children Stephen (Patricia), Annmarie Tuttle (William), Christopher & partner Kent Swarts & Richard Hughes; siblings Margaret Webb, John Hughes, Carol Caravassi and his grandchildren Christopher & Corey Tuttle & Robert & Stephanie Hughes.
Funeral from the Condon Funeral Home 684 Kearny Ave., Kearny, NJ (map/directions) on Friday, September 7th, at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Stephen's Church, Kearny (map/directions) at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington (map/directions). Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 6th from 2-4 and 7- 9 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (DONATE) would be appreciated.
