Mr. William G. Howatt, 85, died on Thursday in Van Dyke Manor in Montclair.  He was a lifelong Kearny resident.  

Relatives and friends may call in the Condon Funeral Home 684 Kearny Avenue, Kearny (map/directions) on Monday from 9:30 untill 11:00 a.m.  The funeral Mass will be offered at 11:30 on Monday morning in St. Stephen's Church, Kearny (map/directions).  Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, No. Arlington (map/directions).

He was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep '45 and Seton Hall College '48 where he received his bachelors degree in finance.  He had been employed as an insurance executive for many years by TransAmerica in Manhattan until retiring.  Mr. Howatt had been a member of the Kearny Optimists and he was a member of Op Sail '76 and various steamship societies because of his love of cruising.

Bill is survived by his longtime companion, Joan P. McGrath, and his nephews and nieces Christopher Howatt and his companion, Carlos Iglesias, Elizabeth Howatt and Kathleen McMinn.  Also surviving is his cousin, Suzanne Howatt.
