Houck, Merrill Obituary

Merrill Eugene Houck, 70, Shatzer Street, Chambersburg, PA, and now resting in a better place, died Friday morning February 14, 2014 at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA.

Born April 13, 1943 in New Grenada, Fulton County, PA, he was the son of the late Carl and Ruth (Black) Houck. He was married to Bonnie Horne, his wife of 50 years, on June 14, 1963. Mrs. Houck survives at their home.

Four children survive: Brad E. Houck and wife Susan of Fort Littleton, PA; Marcy Hoffman and husband Doug; Robin Seville and companion Richard Smith; and Stacey Carbaugh and companion Chuck Wishard; all of Mercersburg, PA.

There are seven grandchildren: Christi Sites, Cory Houck, Colby Winters, Mikenna Hornbaker, Brady Hornbaker, Braylin Carbaugh, and RiLynn Smith.

Also surviving are six great grandchildren along with several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

A twin sister Sherrill Snyder and husband Paul survive of Fayetteville, PA.

A brother Larry Houck and a sister Karen Stiver are deceased.

Mr. Houck attended the West Side Brethren Church, Chambersburg, PA.

Retiring in 2007, Mr. Houck, along with his wife, owned and operated Houck's Painting, Chambersburg for 30 years.

He was a 1961 graduate of Forbes Road High School, Waterfall, PA and was a member of the Plum Hollow Hunting Club, Hustontown, PA.

Mr. Houck enjoyed hunting, working in his yard, and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the West Side Brethren Church, 2665 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Pastor James Sollenberger officiating. Interment will be at Bethel Cemetery, New Grenada, PA. Friends may call at the church from 6-8 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 301 Chestnut St., Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17101.

Arrangements are by the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, PA.
