Frank L. Hickey

Frank L. Hickey, Sergeant Major (retired) of Odenton, died on Saturday the 15th of September 2012.
He was born to Thomas Jefferson Hickey and Rosalie Wector Hickey of Hillsboro, Texas on 11 May 1916. He first came to Maryland while serving in the U.S. Army as an Operations NCO with the 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade of the then Army Air Defense Command. Frank entered service as a National Guardsmen in 1936. He, along with his unit, mobilized for World War II and served over two and a half years in the North Africa and Europe theaters of operations during the war in the 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion.
Frank retired from active duty as a Sergeant Major on the 31st of July 1969 to his home in Glen Burnie where he enjoyed, among other activities, camping and gardening. He was a devoted member of his church and served it in many capacities throughout his retirement years.
He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Cooper and son-in-law Owen Cooper and by his granddaughter Cristi Mello and her husband Charlie.
Service for Sergeant Major Frank Hickey will be held on Thursday, September 20 at 2 p.m., at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1411 Annapolis Rd. Odenton, MD (map/directions) with a visitation to start at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the Nichols-Bethel Church cemetery (map/directions) immediately following the service.
