Bernice G. Hazen, 77, of Matamoras PA, passed away Wednesday March 16, 2016.  Bernice passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side, after her long battle with cancer.

Bernice was born February 11, 1939, in Ledgedale, PA, to the late Charles Wesley Gilpin and Bernice Chapman Gilpin.  She was a devoted Army wife to her high school sweetheart, the late Colonel David Hazen, for 52 years.  

Bernice is survived by her four cool children:  William from Lovettsville, VA., Michael from Anchorage,   AK, Dianne of Matamoras, PA. , and Carol of Huntington, WV.  She is survived by her 7 Grandchildren Abigayle, David, Jessica, Bryce, Megan, Emma Grace and Carly.

In addition to her children and grandchildren she is also survived by her sisters:  Penny, Sarah, Marjorie, Doris, Susan and Lois and her brother Wilmer.  She was preceded in death by her brothers: Richard, Simon, Robert, Harold, Merle, and Charles Gilpin.

Bernice was an Army Wife who moved over 20 times with her husband and family.  She was an active member and served many years with the Military Wives’ Club, American Legion, VFW Post Ladies Auxilary, and Elks.  

Long known for her positive outlook on life and her sense of humor, Bernie was always ready to entertain and make friends wherever she went.  Bernice was a gracious and caring hostess throughout her life.  She enjoyed socializing and playing MahJong, Bridge, Bowling, and Golf with her friends.  

There will be a Memorial celebration of Bernice’s life on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Stroyan Funeral Home, Milford, PA from 5 to 8 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Bernice at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Milford PA, on Saturday March 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
