James A. Hawbaker, 88, Menno Village, Chambersburg, PA died at 8:25 PM, Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Menno Village Nursing Home, Chambersburg, PA.

Born October 28, 1925 in Mercersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Preston and Elva (Blair) Hawbaker.  He was first married to Doris Morton who preceded in death in 1990.  He later married Eunice Wilson Marshall on May 1, 1993.  Mrs. Hawbaker survives at home.

Four children survive: Sharon DeShong and husband “Jim”, McConnellsburg, PA;  James P. Hawbaker and wife Faye, Huntingdon Beach, CA; Betsy Johnston, New Cumberland, PA; and Paula Romero and husband Phil, Monrovia, CA.

There are eight grandchildren: Katrina Smith, Dustin Souders, Brook Wonders, Holly Peck, April Hawbaker, Brian Hawbaker, Keri Romero, and Matthew Romero and one step granddaughter, Diane Walters. One grandson Kelly Seiders is deceased.  Also, there are 10 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.

Six brothers and sisters survive: Willis Hawbaker,  Helen Widdows, and Boyd Hawbaker, of Chambersburg; Richard Hawbaker and Mazie Meyers of Lemasters, PA; and Rudy Hawbaker, Waynesboro, PA.  Two brothers, David and Robert Hawbaker are deceased.

Mr. Hawbaker was a 49 year member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, McConnellsburg, PA.

A Master Sergeant and World War II veteran, Mr. Hawbaker served for 33 years, with the US Army, the US Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and the US Army Reserve.  He was a member of American Legion Post #6241, McConnellsburg and the VFW, Mercersburg.

He retired in 1986 as a foreman from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg after 33 years service.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, June 20, 2014 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street, McConnellsburg, PA with Pastor Neil Ray officiating.  Interment will be at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, PA.  Friends may call at the church from 4--8:00 PM on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

The Fulton Honor Guard will provide military honors at the cemetery.

Arrangements are by the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, PA.
