Hugh "Buzz" Halsey, Jr.

Hugh Halsey, 89, a twenty four year resident of Milford, died at home of a heart attack.
Hugh was born in Newark, NJ to Hugh Halsey, Sr. and Edith Winchell Halsey and was the third of five children. Leaving high school due to a severe injury and lengthy hospitalization, he excelled in a career as a tool and dye expert and as a methods engineer, working for Weston Instruments, his own company, K and H Screw Machine Co. and Wallace & Tiernan. He married Adele Allison in 1949 and they raised two children, Alison Halsey and Hugh Halsey, III, in Union and Basking Ridge, NJ. Upon retirement Hugh and Adele moved to Milford. Adele died in 1998 and Hugh met and married Agnes Thomas in 2001. They had hoped to have a good five years together and were blessed with twelve years of friendship, companionship and love.
Known as “Buzz” by his friends, he was appreciated as an outgoing and friendly neighbor, kind to all, playful with old and young and “a real gentleman.” He was also known to have a joke or a bad pun always at hand.
Halsey was an active church leader, assisting to form a Moravian congregation in Union, NJ serving as an elder within the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church in NJ and recently active at the Milford Methodist Church. Kindness and fairness for all was the ethic that guided his life.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Donald, who died in childhood, and brother’s Robert and Daniel. He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Agnes; sister, Jean Halsey Christ of Whiting, NJ; daughter, Rev. Dr. Alison Halsey (William Hathaway) of Annapolis, MD; son Hugh Halsey, III (Kathy) of East Stroudsburg, PA; three grandsons; Halsey Hathaway (Jolynn Krystosek), Daniel Hathaway (Melissa), and Hugh Halsey IV; and one great granddaughter Brianna.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m. at the Milford United Methodist Church, 206 East Ann Street (map/directions) Memorial gifts may be made to the congregation. Arrangements by Stroyan Funeral Home 405 W. Harford St. Milford, PA.
