His family moved to Northern Virginia in 1966 where he attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Alexandria, VA. While in high school and college, he pursued photography, lighting and sound design in the arts. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Beth (Hughes) Grogan and by his two sons, Matthew Dee Grogan of McLean, VA and Cody Alexander Grogan of Springfield, VA. Also left to honor his memory is his beloved sister Jan Grogan Catlett, her husband Larry Catlett, niece Laura Catlett Brown, nephew Kevin Catlett and their families.
He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Beth Hughes in 1980. He was most proud of his sons and spent many years involved in the Springfield community as a baseball coach, assistant coach and umpire for the Central Springfield Little League and Babe Ruth League.
Alan's greatest accomplishments were his loving family. He was a wonderful son, husband, brother, father, uncle, son-in-law and brother-in-law.
