Joseph P. Gaynor

Joseph P. Gaynor died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday January 15, 2018. Joe was born on March 16, 1927 and grew up in Jackson Heights, NY, the youngest of 7 children. After graduation from Newtown High School, he entered the army and served as a radio operator in Gorizia, Italy from 1945-46.  He studied business at New York University. Joe married Marie McColgan in 1951 and they raised 4 children in Elmhurst, NY. He worked in advertising as well as for the NYS Department of Tax and Finance. After retiring, Joe and Marie relocated to Milford, PA where Joe served as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society. The Gaynors were parishioners of St. Patrick’s Church. Joe was an avid chess player, and greatly enjoyed history, reading and arguing about politics with family.

Joe is survived by Marie, his wife of 67 years, his daughters Patricia, Mary Joan and Sue, 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, PA on January 18, 2018 from 11:30 AM to 12 PM when the family will be in attendance. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, PA on January 18, 2018 at 12 PM with Rev. Ed Straub officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Celtic Hospice 601 Wyoming Avenue Kingston, PA 18704 in memory of Joseph P. Gaynor.
