Rachel Gaither

Rachel was born in Lynchburg, VA, on March 21, 1921. She was preceded in death by her mother, Julia Coleman, and her four siblings, Harry Coleman, Leonard Coleman, Mary Jones and Carrie Brown.
Rachel worked at the National Gallery of Art as a master chef for Guest Services Incorporated from 1951 until she retired in 1989. The dishes she made would make the cooking channel proud.
She was a resident of the District of Columbia for over 74 years. Rachel was a loving and devoted sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a caring person to a host of friends and all who knew her.
Sis. Gaither joined Bethesda Baptist Church on August 5, 1975 and was fellowshipped on August 10, 1975. She served in the 8 a.m. Choir which along with the Senior Choir became the Voices of Bethesda.
The life, memories, and love Sis. Gaither left behind will always be cherished by her loving children, Granville Coleman (Diana), Alphonso McKnight (Carolyn), Florence Gaither, Marcellus Gaither, Roy Gaither (Olivia), Gwendolyn Smith (Jerome) and Linda Gaither.
Visitation for Mrs. Rachel Gaither will be on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, 1808 Capitol Avenue NE, Washington, DC.
Burial will follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD.
