Brenda A. Frye
February 8, 2013
Brenda Antoinette Frye, was born November 17, 1949, second daughter of the late George and Delores Frye, Sr. at Gallinger Hospital, Washington, DC. Brenda, the granddaughter of Bishop Charles and Florence Gamble of the Seven Day Adventist Church.
On February 8th, Brenda went home to be with the Lord following surgery at the Washington Hospital Center.
Brenda attended District of Columbia public schools. Brenda completed the Job Corps program that subsequently lead her to employment with the Government Printing Office. For several years Brenda worked as an adult homecare provider.
Brenda joined Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church on October 4, 2009, under the leadership of Bishop Alfred A. and Co-Pastor Susie C. Owens whom she loved dearly. Brenda would be seen waiting at the bus stop on Rhode Island before 7am on many Sunday mornings with her breathing machine and cain on her way to the early morning service—winter and summer—rain or shine—smiling nevertheless. As for her journey to Christ, she puts it this way in her personal journal: I SURRENDERED ALL; not on my own but singing that song, I Surrender All while walking down M Street SW, the bells at St. Vincent DePaul ringing out loud, I was singing and waving my hands high in the air… from then on I was clean—September 2006—… She goes on: so remember, what you say out of your mouth no matter where you are, God will hear you, at the moment you surrender to God, will be where you will get it—just surrender, God is listening.
Brenda had a warm heart, she was kind and generous towards family and friends. Brenda was artistic. She prided herself with the gifts of drawing, singing, writing, and decorating her home on the inside regardless of what the outside looked like. So gifted she said "I can sew without a pattern".
Brenda’s cherished memory will live on through her mother Delores A Cook (Bishop Bill Cook, NJ); three sisters, Jacqueline (DC), the twins,Wanetta and Wanda (CA); two brothers, George, Jr. (DC) and Michael (CA); five aunts, Carolyn Peaches(late Earl) (MD), Mary (MD), Sharon (MD), Isabelle (DC), Bernice (DC), Norma Jean (OH); two uncles, James Lee (MD), and Tommy (DC). Her trusted companion and friend John Kittrell and the Kittrell Family. And her lifelong best friend Beverly Morgan Proctor. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
