She went to Washington, DC to work for the War Department. While there, she met and married Sgt. Samuel Willis Ring who was stationed at Fort Belvoir. His hometown was Coeburn, VA. They were living there when he died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a tent with a gas log while deer hunting on November 20, 1957. He was an avid hunter. Elaine and her children moved back to Front Royal in 1959.

Mrs. Burke has been a member of Rivermont Baptist Church since February 1963 where she served as a Sunday school teacher, church clerk, secretary, treasurer, and Pastor Young's secretary and financial secretary. She was a member of the Jolly 60's and did the cooking for several years. She also cleaned both churches and did other odd jobs. She dearly loved to cook and bake, and give away. Her specialty was homemade hot rolls and zucchini bread. To this day some of the neighbor children that lived near call her their second Mom because when her children ate she usually had extra children to feed, and enjoyed it.

Donations may be made to Rivermont Baptist Church at 566 Catlett Mountain Rd., Front Royal, VA 22630 in Mrs. Burke's memory. It was like a second home to her.
