As her wings were crafted, and her pain was relieved, The Lord called his angel to heaven on February 12, 2021. Bettye Carol Dunson affectionately known as “MaMa” was born on September 24th 1940 in Lancaster ,South Carolina to the late James Cauthen Sr. and Esther Mae Robinson. Bettye was given the honor of being raised in the home of her dear grandparents, Robert and Hester Waiters. They instilled many values that included family and hard work. This allowed her to excel in education as well as life. She attended the historic Barr Street High School and graduated Valedictorian. Her passion for learning continued where she attended Federal City College, now known as The University of the District of Columbia. One lovely day Bettye Cauthen met Van Dunson Sr., they were later married. Out of this union they were blessed with three phenomenal children: Stefanie, Tracee, and Van Jr.

Bettye decided to take her talents and devote 33 years of services for the United States Government Printing office until she retired in December 2005. During her tenure at GPO Bettye received a multitude of service awards, accolades and promotions.

She always had a passion for gardening, cooking, baking, sewing ,and her family gatherings If you were blessed to enjoy a holiday feast prepared by her hands, you knew that you had a meal from heaven .She loved her local sports teams. Every Sunday you would find her watching The Washington Redskins . She watched each game with excitement and always cheered them on.

The wondrous life of Bettye Carol Dunson could never be encapsulated in a few paragraphs. Today we celebrate how her undying love for her family and friends , and her endearing  smile  and personality blessed us all. To know her was to love her, and there was no greater soul. Her beauty and grace radiated through her kind acts followed with a smile in everything she did. Her warmth resonated with everyone she met.

Bettye is lovingly remembered by her three children; Stefanie (Darryl), Tracee, (Kelvin) and Van Jr (China); nine grandchildren: Vanterra, Dante, Donovan, Arnicia , Kelvn, Vincent ,Van III, Malik, and Dare'; 5 great grand children: Javontae, Kameron, Karter, Kinsley, Nina and Noah.; three brothers, Robert Cauthen, Harry Cauthen, and John Robinson; Two sisters- in-law; one brother-in- law; ; as well as a host of other cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
