Edwin Derflinger

Edwin Derflinger died unexpectedly at home on April 4, 2016 in Lords Valley, PA, at the age of 81.

Ed was born in New Brunswick, NJ on August 17, 1934. He was the son of the late Catherine Newell and Amos Derflinger. He was a self-employed contractor where he resided in South Plainfield, NJ and moved to Lords Valley with his wife in 1986 and became active as Fire Police in the Blooming Grove Township Fire Department for 27 years and also served as Fire Police Captain for over 15 years.

Ed is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria Greck Derflinger and his daughters, Kathryn Schwab and husband Doug of Wheatridge, CO, Sheryl White and her husband Glenn of Dunellen, NJ and Eileen Eck of Bethlehem, PA; seven grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Karly, Kyle, Mitchell, RJ and Blake and nine great-grandchildren, Rylee, Jaxon, Adalin, Haylee, Emmett, Theo, Lila, Cecily and Abagail and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Joanne Emory, brothers Joseph and Robert Derflinger and sister Gail Roznowsky.

He enjoyed his retirement years, spending time in his woodworking shop and creating projects for all the family. He was known for his wood carvings. You could always find him in his barn either making something out of wood or riding around on his tractor or scooter. You could always expect a joke from him (sometimes the same one multiple times) and quick to tell you that “he only retained water”.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the members of the community who were always there to help. We especially want to thank his medical caregivers of which there were many, who provided the care that allowed him more time with his loved ones.

Friends may call at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, PA on April 7, 2016 from 1 to 3:30 PM. Funeral services will be held at Stroyan Funeral Home on April 7, 2016 at 3:30 PM with Reverend Thomas Major officiating.
