Deloach, Luvina Obituary

Luvina “Penny” Rose Deloach was born in Washington, D.C. on September 04, 1939 to the late Stowest Flournoy and Georgia Miller Flournoy.  She was the third of seven children. She is preceded in death by four brothers Harold, Jerome, Eugene “winky” and Edgar. She is also preceded by her son Samuel and her youngest daughter Cassandra.

After being hospitalized for more than a month; Luvina was peacefully called home to be with the Lord.

Luvina “Penny” accepted the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into her life and was baptized at a very young age. She was educated in the D.C. Public School system and assisted in the upbringing of her siblings.

Luvina was employed as a domestic engineer for the GSA for many years but after having surgery on both knees she was forced to retire. Luvina had many gifts so once retired she became a very successful entrepreneur.  She owned an ice cream truck and ran a home based deli and goods shop. People would come from miles around to get a taste of Penny’s sweet potato pies, fried chicken, fried fish, cabbage, and collard greens. It wasn’t uncommon for her to make 6–8 pies just because she could. Soul Food was her specialty.  In 1957, Penny walked onto the fire escape of her home to get some fresh air. The family resided in a small apartment above a local convenience store.  While standing there, she looked down and noticed a young male worker, named Robert Lee Deloach, taking a cigarette break behind the store.

Luvina knew she was not allowed to date so the two kept their relationship a secret.

On June 15, 1959 Luvina and Robert were married. During the course of their marriage they bore 7 children Leonard, Samuel (deceased), Ernestine “Lucy”, Deborah, Robert Jr., Cassandra (deceased) and Mark “Donwon.”

Penny was always a very stylish dresser. She loved hats and she loved to dance. The Chateau was her favorite place to frequent.
