Evelyn Rose D'Amore (née Augustitus) 78, of Kearny, NJ passed away in her home May 2nd after a courageous battle with cancer for over 7 years. Even up until her last days she had continued to fight to be with her loving family.
Daughter of Helen and William Augustitus, born in Old Forge (Austin Heights), PA on August 13, 1935. She lived in Kearny most of her life. Evelyn was married to Dominick for 57 years.
Mrs. D'Amore is survived by her beloved husband Dominick. She was a loving mother to Glenn D'Amore and wife Mary Susan, her daughter Dianne D'Amore and husband Philip Weiss, and was an adoring grandmother to Kyle and Caroline D'Amore.
Evelyn graduated from Kearny High School in 1953 and was voted homecoming queen. She attended Rutgers University while she worked at RCA in Harrison, NJ. She left her position at RCA as an engineering education committee secretary and coordinator for the tuition loan and refund schooling program so that she could start a family in 1962. She received various awards including a medal for the youngest member of the work simplification century club for money saved through her suggestions in performing routine tasks.
Mrs. D'Amore was predeceased by her sister Elaine Mougel and her parents Helen and William Augustitus. Survived by younger sister Carol Lavery who lovingly came out to see her and checked in on her often. She is also survived by her brother Vincent Augustitus.
Evelyn was known for sending thoughtful cards with enclosures. She enjoyed any opportunity to have a conversation with family members, friends or even a fellow slot machine player. She had the gift of gab.
The funeral will be conducted from Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral Mass will be offered at St Stephen's Church, Kearny at 10:30 a.m. on Friday May 9, 2014. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Friends may call on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.
