Crafton, Agnes Obituary

Agnes Lee Crafton Lives!

In the year 1921, the late James and Ruth Speaks proudly announced the birth of their second child and their first daughter, Agnes Lee,on October 11th in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The family later relocated to Bowie, Maryland where Agnes was raised, educated and introduced to the Lord.

Known to everyone as “Momma” and “GraMa”, Agnes married Landrus “Pop’s” Crafton on March 4, 1940 and we celebrated 65 years of their marriage just three short months prior to Pop’s passing on June 24, 2005. As aproud Matriarch, Momma raised 4 daughters and 3 sons, Ruth, Juanita, Landrus II, Ocie, Stanley, Lana and Rita and, lived through the passing of two of herson’s, Ocie and Stanley. Our family lived with Momma as the head of 5 living generations, including 5 of her 7 children, 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grand children, 2 daughters who adopted Momma along with 2 grand children who also adopted Momma.

In addition to Pops, Ocie and Stanley preceding her in passing, Momma also celebrated the lives of her loving daughters in law Dianeand Jacqueline, her two sons in law, Milton Smith and Morris Benthall, her grandson extraordinaire, Kim, and her great-grand son Donnie, who all preceded her in passing.

With an exceptional work ethic, Momma’s career spanned several decades, first working as a domestic and ultimately retiring from the Marriott Corporation in 1975. From 1975 until overpowered by illness in 1999, Momma was “The Baby Sitter”, helping to raise many of her grand, great grand,great-great grand, friends, neighbors and acquaintance’s children - she was Momma.

The more than 91 years filled with family, love, and goodtimes included the past 13 years’ loving journey with the debilitating dementia disease commonly known as Alzheimer’s, and, at 1:00 AM, on Tuesday, September 3rd, Momma peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord. Keep Momma in your prayers as we celebrate her life.

Agnes Lee Crafton Is Not Dead!
