Bernard Ashby Compton, 88, of Front Royal died Monday, September 10, 2012, in the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.
Services will be private.
Mr. Compton was born March 21, 1924, son of Eli Enoch and Margie Mills Compton. He was a retired loader operator with the Riverton Lime Corporation. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran having received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Service Stars, and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW Post 1860, the Giles B. Cook Post 53 of the American Legion, and a past member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 829.
Surviving are two nephews Randy Williams and Jerry Williams both of Front Royal; two nieces Carolyn Williams and Deborah Stover both of Front Royal; a half-sister Dorsey Matthews of Front Royal; and a daughter Gloria Jean Spriggs of Clarke County. He was preceded in death by his twin sister Elizabeth Compton.
